Gentlemen, (and ladies, to be gender-inclusive, but I haven't seen any posters from the fair sex here as yet), I was at a friend's house this past weekend, and played his Tippin OM briefly. One of several things that struck me is that there is so little difference in tone whether a string is played open or fretted. Also, when going up the neck, there was far less "thumpiness" than I'm accustomed to. Tone and sustain varied little. That is, playing an A on the low E 5th fret sounded very much like an A on the open A string. It was the same going higher up the neck. There were a host of other fine aspects to this guitar, but I'm very curious about these. Could it have been Neck stiffness? Strings? Neck resonance? Bracing? All of the above? Any comments? |

It's called "quality". Tippin makes great guitars, and you will find as you build more yourself (do you build?) that you will tend to get guitars that are well-balanced all the way up the fretboard. Part of it is having a well designed neck, yes, but also the workmanship that goes into the top and the bracing etc. |
